Child safety seats are extremely important for children’s safety while riding in a passenger car. Seats with ISOFIX system have been very popular for years. What are their advantages and disadvantages?
The ISOFIX system is part of the mandatory equipment of passenger cars in the European Union since 2011. It is a special system of fixing a car seat, thanks to which the seat is permanently connected to the structure of the car. It has a very simple mounting system, and because of this, many parents are very keen on car seats that fit with the ISOFIX system.
The advantages of car seats that are equipped with the ISOFIX system are plentiful. We are talking, for example, about the incredibly simple and very fast installation. To install such a seat, all you have to do is place it properly and hear the characteristic click, so the seat is in the right position and provides the highest possible level of safety. This is a huge advantage over strap-on seats, which, according to studies, are incorrectly installed in up to 70% of cases.
In addition, an ISOFIX car seat provides much greater safety, because it is attached to the structure of the car, and not just held in place by seat belts, which may fail to do their job or harm the child while driving. In the case of a car seat with ISOFIX system this problem does not occur.
Of course, seats with ISOFIX system also have their disadvantages. One of the biggest is the price, which can be considerably higher when comparing them with car seats that are strap-mounted. It should also be remembered that such a seat will not be used in every car, as many older cars simply do not have this system, and this must be taken into account.
Other sizable disadvantages include the fact that an ISOFIX system seat, if it is to guarantee the highest level of safety possible, has limited load-bearing capacity and should be used by a child weighing up to about 18 kilograms and having a maximum height of about 105 centimeters. Otherwise, such a seat cannot be completely counted on in the event of some kind of collision.
