It’s good to know that you can easily learn how to get your car out of a skid and avoid getting into one. For this, it is necessary to know your car. Drivers who drive frequently have more experience and feel more confident behind the wheel. So, it is worth honing your skills often to know your vehicle better. In this way you can remember how it behaves when starting on corners, or taking off at an intersection after stopping at a traffic light. You can assess how the car behaves on certain tires, and how hard you need to move the steering wheel to make a turn. This will all make it easier to steer the car out of a skid.

How to behave in a skid?

It is worth knowing that a skid occurs when the car loses its grip on at least two wheels. Skids can be divided into two types – those caused by understeer and those caused by oversteer. Both types of skidding can occur in any car, regardless of the type of drivetrain it is powered by. It is worth knowing that in the case of understeer, it is best to let off the gas pedal, so that the car reduces its speed. In this way, definitely faster regains traction. Do not forget that it is also necessary not to change the turn of the wheels.

If, however, oversteer occurs – a skid in which the rear of the car is most often thrown – it is best to suddenly and strongly countersteer the wheels in the direction to which the rear of the car escapes. It is also worth remembering that in such a situation it is advisable not to brake sharply. It is better to gently add gas, when the wheels are counteracted. In this way you can quickly lead the car out of the slide.

Is it worth to go to a training teaching how to safely get out of a skid?

As we wrote earlier, people who drive frequently are much better at handling these situations. However, if you are a driver who only occasionally gets into the car and you are worried that you will not be able to cope in case of a skid, then know that it is possible to enroll in special courses. Thanks to them, you can gain theoretical and practical knowledge about how to get your car out of a skid.
