Summer tires – when should you put them on?
It takes approx. 4 minutes to read this article

This is a question drivers ask every spring. In addition, other questions arise, such as whether it is even worth replacing winter tires with summer tires, and if so, why is it important?

If you want to know a little more about this topic, be sure to check out our article. We tell you when it is best to change your tyres, whether it is worth using a specialist and where to store your winter tires.

Is it necessary to replace winter tires with summer ones?

Wondering if it’s worth making the switch? In the case of winter tires, which are fitted for the winter season, no such doubts arise. It’s obvious that winter tires perform well in cold weather. It’s designed for snow and mud, so it makes sure that your vehicle has a great grip on the ground regardless of whether you can see minus temperatures and snowfall outside, or whether it’s time for snowmelt

However, when summer comes around, many drivers wonder if it’s even worth replacing their tires with summer tires. Turns out, there are several reasons why it’s a very good idea:

  1. Safety considerations – tires designed for the summer season are structured and made with a rubber compound that performs well in high temperatures. The shape of the tread is symmetrical or asymmetrical, and the sipes make sure that water in rainfall is quickly evacuated from under the wheels. As a result, the vehicle does not lose grip and, what is more, the risk of aquaplaning on the road, which is very dangerous not only for the driver but also for other road users, is reduced.
  2. Legal issues – it is worth knowing that the Polish law does not order the drivers to change the tires from winter to summer, however, in case of an accident, it will surely be checked what kind of tires are used in the vehicle. If you have summer tires, which are designed for winter conditions, then unfortunately it is possible that you will be blamed for the accident or collision. Additionally, you could be fined and your insurance company may not pay your claim.
  3. Savings issues – tires that are exposed to weather conditions to which they are not adapted wear out much faster, making it possible that you will need to replace the entire set once a year. It is worth noting that one set can cost up to several thousand zloty, while the exchange of tires at a vulcanizer costs only 100 zloty.

By paying attention to these aspects, you can come to the conclusion that the right question is when to replace summer tires.

When is the best time to change your tires from winter to summer?

Is there any best time to replace your tires with summer tires? Unfortunately, it is not as easy and obvious as it may seem. Most drivers decide to take this step in March, April and May. It is worth remembering, however, that even during the calendar spring there may appear frosts, and there are also cases of snow. Unfortunately summer tyres do not cope well in such conditions, which makes it easier to lose grip and skid

That’s why you should keep an eye on the long-term weather forecast before visiting the tyre specialist.

How do I store my tyres properly so that they don’t deteriorate?

Once the tire set has been replaced, it’s worth considering where and how to store the tires for the winter season. It is important that the room in which they are stored has the right temperature. It can not be lower than -5 degrees Celsius and higher than 30 degrees Celsius. Additionally, you need to keep them away from liquids such as oils lubricants, solvents and others. You need to make sure that they take the right position so that the rubber is not deformed.
